As yacht brokers based in Annapolis, MD, we have had to travel further and more often to find quality power and blue water sailing yachts for our buyers. Our yacht brokers have traveled to New England, Florida and all over the Mid Atlantic recently in order to find quality listings. The firming financial market trend and lack of brokerage inventory, specifically with regards to blue water boats, has caused prices to firm along the entire Mid Atlantic making Annapolis a perfect place to sell your boat. As yacht brokers in Annapolis, MD, we work hard not to just put your boat on the market by simply hanging a sign on the rail. We study the trends, inform our clients and put our listings in the market. At first glance, there seem to be many choices for yacht brokerage representation when it comes to selling your blue water sailboat or your powerboat. Give us a call today and we will prove that there is only one.
Cleaveland Forbes Horton set ashore in Annapolis, MD in the spring of 2007 fresh from a 5,000-mile Caribbean cruise aboard his 34' Tartan Indra. A native of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, he grew up cruising the Maine coast with his family. His love of the sea led to a degree in Marine Biology from the University of New Hampshire, and later employment with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration designing and developing equipment for the offshore aquaculture industry. His blue water sailing experience includes numerous passages racing and cruising to Bermuda and the Caribbean. He has a United States Coast Guard Masters license and has commercially operated a range of vessels from celestial training schooners in the Gulf of Maine to salvage tugboats in the British Virgin Islands.
In Annapolis, Horton began his professional yacht brokerage career working for Martin Bird & Associates and quickly became a top producer at the firm. He has been a YBAA member since 2007 and earned his Certified Professional Yacht Broker credentials in 2010. An expert in cruising sailboats and efficient power boats, he has helped hundreds of boaters buy and sell their yachts nationally and internationally.
Horton was exposed to the yachting industry as a child. His father, Cleaveland F. Horton Sr., the owner and founder of Sea Frost marine refrigeration, introduced him to the top manufactures in the industry and provided him with an insider’s view of the yacht construction and design process. On windless summer evenings he and his wife, Jamie, and their two young boys, Hendrix and Max, are often seen ghosting through the harbor aboard FOX, their custom built deadrise.
Horton has a vast knowledge of marine systems and yacht construction. He has restored several classics, like his S&S designed Tartan, and supervised the construction of a NOAA-funded research vessel. His strong work ethic and customer dedication have made him a successful broker with satisfied customers on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. Horton believes that in yacht sales, information is the most useful tool. Whether you're buying or selling a boat, he is happy to share his knowledge to help you make the right decision.
Jamie officially joined her husband in 2013, bringing her professional photography, web design and marketing skills to Forbes Horton Yachts. Her bluewater adventures have taken her from Maine to Bermuda, the Caribbean, Bahamas and finally to City Dock in Annapolis, MD. These days, when she's not in the office, you’ll find her alongside Forbes & their two sons cruising the waters of the Severn River or photographing clients underway.
