Blue Water Cruiser:

The X cruising yachts have been created with a distinctive hull design that includes deeper sections to provide a greater interior volume for accommodation, tanks and other essential cruising equipment, and a deeper V-shape midships and forward for improved heavy air handling. A medium to heavy displacement and high keel weight guarantees maximum stability, however X-Yachts’ performance pedigree ensures that every Xc yacht is responsive and rapid in all conditions.

The Xc 38 is proportionally slightly wider at the aft deck level in order to accommodate the twin wheel steering. There are two recessed port-lights on each side, integrated dark grey waterlines, and a recessed decorative sheer stripe.

Clean and uncluttered:

The overall impression of the Xc 38’s deck is clean and uncluttered: halyards are fed underneath the deck, deck hatches are flush mounted, and teak surfaces are fitted as standard. A recessed locker in the foredeck provides storage for anchor gear. All sail handling is controlled from the cockpit. Halyards, reefing and control lines are led back to the winches on the coach roof, whilst the German-style mainsheet is led to dedicated winches within easy reach of the helmsman. Both the standard furling forestay and the optional self-tacking jib make sail handling simple. The mainsheet track has been moved out of the cockpit, onto the coach roof, allowing ease of crew movement from stern to companionway. The anchor locker provides space for the standard 150 ft of chain, as well as additional sail bag storage.

All-weather protection:

The Xc 38 offers fantastic protection and comfort on deck in all weathers. The dodger and  bimini are both foldable and offer sun and rain protection. Three cockpit lockers, one forward and two aft of the steering wheels, provide ample storage for lines, fenders and cruising equipment. For halyards and control lines, a dedicated locker is integrated in the cockpit sole next to the companionway. Pushpit seats with cushions offer great views from the aft quarters

Classic style and ample space:

The transom features many of the Xc yachts’ most defining features. A positively raked transom gives the Xc 38 a distinctive classic look, whilst also creating a spacious aft deck by connecting the side decks, which is highly practical for cruising and ensures crew safety in heavy seas. The transom also accommodates an optional six-person liferaft, easily launched from a compartment underneath the cockpit floor. The transom hinges down into a horizontal position to create a convenient bathing platform, with an integrated bathing ladder and shower unit which is also accessible from the cockpit ( while transom up)

Central instrument console for all controls to hand:

The Xc 38 offers light and responsive handling, making it a real joy to helm, while the helmsman’s position provides an excellent view forward whilst sailing and maneuvering. The Xc 38 features twin wheels while a central instrument console ensures a good view of the navigation instruments, and doubles as a secure handhold for use at sea. The throttle is mounted at the Starboard helm. The engine control panel and bow thruster is located very detail is designed to maximize the skipper’s control at the helm and to help a shorthanded crew work safely.

Flexible sail plan and ease of sail handling:

The Xc 38 sail plan has been developed with long distance cruising in mind. Head sail areas are easily adjustable thanks to a furling head stay, flown from a double-spreader tapered mast. The Xc 38 is fitted with a  106% overlapping Genoa and Asymmetric Spinnaker. Together with the provision for masthead spinnakers this offers total flexibility; particularly when the A frame bowsprit is also specified. Discontinuous rod rigging and a hydraulic back stay ensures simple, accurate rig tuning, with self-tailing winches for ease of trimming.

Reassurance and room to explore:

This Xc 38 is the shallow draft version of 5'5", enabling exploration of even the most remote picturesque anchorages.  The lead and cast iron bulb keel is incorporated into the hull by X-Yachts’ trademark steel girder structure, which gives the Xc 38 tremendous stiffness and strength in heavy seas or the event of a grounding for complete peace of mind.

A well-appointed workspace:

The spacious galley has all the facilities positioned within easy reach and plenty of storage space. A Corian counter-top and clear splashback create a stylish space, while numerous handholds ensure it is safe and secure at sea. Additional handrails at the companionway and along the coach roof provide security under way. She has a top-loading fridge/ freezer as well as a front-opening fridge and microwave oven.

Plotting a bluewater course:

Opposite the galley a dedicated forward-facing navigation station incorporates ample space for charts and communication equipment.

The second cabin:

The Xc 38 layout is ideal for two couples, with two large double cabins, and a generous heads/shower compartment. The aft cabin incorporates plenty of storage, and the double berth is supplied with dual density ‘comfort’ foam mattresses for superb comfort. The aft bathroom is particularly spacious.

Intelligent systems:

Using the very latest 3D design programs, X-Yachts designers, engineers and technicians have been able to create a yacht where no space is wasted. The systems of the Xc 38 might be concealed from view, but they were incorporated into the yacht’s design and construction planning from the very outset. Every cable and pipe run is fully modelled in 3D to ensure that the system can be simply installed – and easily accessed for servicing at a later date.   Piping for all the water systems on board run in dedicated service trays and channels. Custom-built high volume tanks for diesel fuel and water maximise the space usage underneath the saloon berths, and are also designed to optimise weight distribution by ensuring the fluids are carried centrally and low down in the hull.  An optional heating system is mounted aft – when sailing under warmer skies the optional air conditioning system offers extra comfort.

Smooth operation:

A 40hp saildrive engine is fitted as standard with a 3-bladed folding propeller. The engine compartment is well insulated and ventilated, with good access panels, to reach the key service points of impeller, oil and water.   Careful planning has also minimised noise volumes from the engine, particularly in the saloon and cabins when motoring, with noise-reducing foam insulation and particular attention paid to all locking and fastening mechanisms of the access hatch.  The saildrive engines with folding propeller are carefully fitted with the engine ‘S’ struts faired into the hull using a rigid gasket for reliability and reduced drag underwater.

Electrical Upgrades:

Over $25,000 has been recently invested into VIXEN's electrical system.  She has the latest in Lithium Ion Batteries and DC air conditioning which allows her to run her air conditioning while on the hook or at sea off of the battery bank.  Imagine having climate control without the noise and stink of a generator!
