Construction Details:

Hull

The hull is molded in FRP from female molds with ¾" Airex foam core for added strength and sound/thermal insulation. Vinylester resin is used on the exterior skins for the highest possible resistance to water osmosis, plus an epoxy bottom coating with Interlux 2000 system. Airex core material eliminated in areas of sheer line, centerline, ballast, rudder post, hull ports and thru-hulls, with solid FRP lay-up in these areas. There is a painted fiberglass rub rail with stainless steel striker.

Centerboard

The centerboard has a highly efficient foil shape and is filled with structural putty and lead ballast to provide negative buoyancy.  Hoist via wire cable to winch on deck. The centerboard trunk is molded FRP.  Rebuilt in 2016, the centerboard configuration offers minimum draft of 6' with board up and maximum draft of 11' with board down.

Rudder

The balanced spade rudder is molded FRP with 3-1/2" s/s rudder stock.  The rudder blade is molded around a s/s frame welded to the rudder stock.  Rebuilt by Hinckley in 2017.

Ballast

All ballast is lead, cast in place and fully encapsulated by the fiberglass hull and keel. The lead is covered with approximately ½" solid FRP.

Other

Bulkheads are built of marine-grade plywood, reinforced with FRP in areas of chain plates.  All structural bulkheads are bonded to the hull and deck with FRP and Airex foam spacers.  Floor beams are extruded FRP, interlocked and bonded to hull for rigid and durable support of cabin sole.

Tanks

FRP fuel and water tanks are integral to the hull for additional stiffness to hull laminate and to use the maximum amount of volume available.  All tanks are fully baffled with ample inspection ports, and water tanks are coated with clear gelcoat.   Chain plates are 3/16" stainless flat bar weldments thru-bolted to reinforce FRP attached to hull. S/S mast step, ¼" thickness with limber holes and provision for 3" of fore and aft adjustment. FRP engine bed with steel reinforcement bonded directly to the hull.

Deck & Cockpit

The deck is painted in white Awlgrip, and is constructed of one-piece molded FRP covered with laid teak and Divinycell H-80 foam core.  In areas where deck equipment is installed, core is replaced with Divinycell H-200 high-density foam. Cockpit sides and coaming are solid fiberglass with mounted teak backrests.  Deck flange is solid glass, approximately 3/8" thickness.  The deck is bonded and bolted down with epoxy putty to the inboard angled hull flange with 5/16" bolts on 8" centers.  Additional fastenings provided with teak toe rail thru-bolted on 8" centers.  All deck hatch landings are molded in FRP.  Eleven Lexan hatches replaced (2005).  There is a flush lazarette hatch with molded drain channels.  The propane locker is molded separately and ventilated with direct drain overboard.

Deck/Custom Stainless Work

Stainless steel bow pulpit with port and starboard running lights; S/S stern pulpit with boarding gate and stern light; 27 s/s stanchions and double lifelines with side gates; S/S stem head fitting with twin anchor rollers and well-rounded, built-in mooring line fairleads, installed flush with toe rail.  S/S stern and spring line chocks flush with toe rail; S/S chain plates; s/s non-fouling guard rails over Dorade boxes; teak covered S/S steering wheel; S/S genoa tracks inboard and outboard with reference number stamped on top; S/S foot block bases.

Deck Joiner Work

Hand-laid teak decks and cockpit sole, bedded and fastened to deck; solid teak toe rail flared and tapered to match hull and fitted to mooring line chocks; solid teak Dorade boxes with Lexan tops and dovetail joints; teak eyebrow along cabin side and wrapped around front and back of cabin; teak handrails; solid teak cockpit backrests; solid teak-framed Lexan companionway hatch slides and teak/Lexan sliding companionway hatch with teak-faced FRP sprayhood to house instruments.  Screen slides with varnished teak frames.

Cockpit

The main cockpit is large and functional, designed for easy exit each side without climbing over the coaming.  A custom-designed molded FRP steering pedestal houses all engine instrumentation, sail handling functions for easy access by helmsman, as are all deck winches.  There is an array of (5) B&G displays above the companionway, providing essential information for the helmsman. A Ritchie 6" compass is installed on the steering pedestal; solid teak table with drop leaves installed ahead of the pedestal. built-in coaming lockers outside of the cockpit for storage of lines etc.  All sail handling and electronic functions are located within easy reach of the helmsman, enabling one person to operate the boat.
